Sustainability and DEI
Our approach to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
We are aware that the dominant voices in both the climate and the startup spaces are often white, Western, and male. We believe that the climate emergency requires all of us — with all our backgrounds, voices, perspectives, and talents — in order to be met with the full breadth of human creativity, courage, and community. To that end, we intentionally structure our business so that pro bono or subsidised coaching is made available to individuals from minority, low-budget, and/or disadvantaged backgrounds.
Through personal reading and CPD, we continue learning more about our own proximity to privilege, for example through the Kliman Matrix, which explores intersectional identities, racism, and privilege and how this might impact our coaching. Through dialogue with individuals in minority groups, we intentionally build inclusion into our practices, for example including preferred pronouns in intake questionnaires and workshop openings. We know this is an ongoing process and welcome input as to how we can further build in inclusivity.
Our approach to reducing our environmental impact
We are partnered with Stripe Climate, where we donate 1% of all credit card payments to a global programme that scales technologies to combat climate change. We bank with Starling Bank, founder member of TechZero: a climate action group for UK tech companies committed to fighting the climate crisis. Our pensions are also invested in sustainable funds.
Our office runs on green energy. We buy second-hand office furniture where possible, purchase recycled paper products and (often) second-hand books, and recycle office waste (e.g., printer cartridges). The vast majority of our work is virtual, hugely diminishing carbon emissions. Where we have to travel for work, we choose rail over car where possible, and offset emissions if travelling via plane.
